SCORE CBO (Strengthening Community Resilience against Extreme Situations Community Based Organization) integrates agribusiness into its resilience-building efforts, recognizing its vital role in ensuring food security and economic stability. Our agribusiness initiatives focus on empowering small-scale farmers through training, resource access, and market connections.
We conduct workshops on sustainable agricultural practices, teaching farmers about climate-resilient crops, soil conservation, and efficient water management. By promoting techniques such as crop rotation, organic farming, and agroforestry, SCORE CBO helps farmers increase productivity while preserving the environment.
Access to resources is another key area. We facilitate connections between farmers and suppliers of high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and farming tools. Additionally, SCORE CBO assists farmers in securing financial services, including microloans and insurance, to invest in their agricultural activities and protect against potential losses.
Market access is crucial for the economic success of small-scale farmers. SCORE CBO helps farmers form cooperatives, improving their bargaining power and enabling them to reach larger markets. We also organize agricultural fairs and create digital platforms to connect farmers directly with buyers, ensuring they receive fair prices for their produce.
Through these agribusiness initiatives, SCORE CBO strengthens community resilience by ensuring food security, increasing incomes, and fostering sustainable farming practices, thereby contributing to the overall well-being and stability of communities.
The organization was established in 2011 in Homa Bay County as an empowerment program themed “Supporting Primary Education among Kenyans- SPEAK” by five widows who were victims and survivors of gender based violence, teenage pregnancy and HIV.
