Strengthening Community Resilience (SCORE) is a unique women-owned, women-led and women-managed organization. The organization was established in 2011 as an empowerment program themed “Supporting Primary Education among Kenyans- SPEAK” by five widows who were victims and survivors of gender based violence, teenage pregnancy and HIV. The idea was to support vulnerable and marginalized girls and young women through education and business to enable them gain skills and earn incomes as well as escaping the threats of HIV, teenage pregnancies and gender-based violence. We could raise funds and work with women leaders to support 5 girls and their mothers each year with school fee, uniform, books, health kits, and agribusiness training and start-up fund (Kshs. 2,000). By January 2019, the program had reached and supported 90 girls and women. With population growth, more pressure on land and resources making many girls and women become vulnerable and marginalized, the demand for SPEAK project became real. The SPEAK leaders mobilized and organized a meeting dubbed “We will not farm, and live like our ancestors” purposely to see how best scale and sustain the SPEAK project. It was out of this meeting that SCORE CBO was born with primary focus in health, education, agriculture, human rights, governance, environment, ICT, and environment.
The organization was established in 2011 in Homa Bay County as an empowerment program themed “Supporting Primary Education among Kenyans- SPEAK” by five widows who were victims and survivors of gender based violence, teenage pregnancy and HIV.
